This discussion examines 6 topics which are sometimes used to distinguish humans from other primates:  aggression; theory-of-mind; applications of the Golden Rule; empathy; transmission of culture; and a capacity for anticipation/deferred gratification.

About the Presenter:

Dr. Reinovsky is a practising scientist and program manager at Los Alamos National Laboratory.

Building a wall is currently a hot topic. Come see how Nehemiah handled it!

Berean Circle

Fall 2016 ImageBerean Circle will be meeting on Wednesday, October 12 at 10:30 am in the Library. We will see who Jesus is this month through the eyes of Matthew (Lesson 2). If you haven’t read the whole gospel with the thought of hearing the stories for the first time, at least look at Chapters 5-7 and 13. Please join us.

Carl Allen is NASA’s curator of extraterrestrial samples, and Jackie Allen is an accomplished space science educator.

Berean Circle Resumes September 14

Fall 2016 ImageBerean Circle, a Bible study utilizing the book, Who Is Jesus? What a difference a Lens Makes, resumes this Wednesday, September 14 at 10:30 am. Please read Mark, Chapters 1-8 prior to meeting. We will distribute books when they arrive.  All are welcome to join us.

Sundays from August 28 – October 2
9 am in the Chapel

The Festal Scrolls are the five shortest books in the Writings, a part of the Hebrew Bible, our Old Testament. We will look at these books – Ecclesiastes, Esther, Song of Songs, Ruth, and Lamentations – in the order they are read during the year in the Synagogue. Each is associated with a Jewish festival: the feast of Tabernacles, Purim, Passover, the festival of Weeks, and the Ninth of Av.

Class will not meet next Sunday, September 18.

The Enlightenment of the eighteenth century emphasized the individual’s right to freedom from institutional control. But followers of Jesus cannot settle for “freedom from” without also asking what we are “free for?” Please join us.
